DESCRIPTION AND USES OF THE CONCRETE CONNECTORS

These special concrete pieces are placed at the inlet and outlet of the prefabricated concrete manholes. The main reason for fitting these special concrete pieces is that the prefabricated concrete manholes and manholes executed in situ are very heavy. During their useful life the soil may settle differently, which could cause a deflection angle between the axes of the sewer and manhole, which would subject the concrete pipes on either side to a load equal to the weight of the concrete manhole itself plus any possible overloads due to use. The concrete connectors form a joint that permits controlled rotation, caused by settling, at both inlet and outlet of the manhole. The rubber gasket fitted between the connectors and the manhole facilitates the deflection rotation and achieves the desired tightness of the sewer.
The concrete connectors are also known as concrete "reels".
